BOHEMIANS | Painting over recycled ceramics

Fantastic Fauna is an ongoing experimental series in which reclaimed vases and ceramic vessels become the stage for a world of eccentric, animated creatures. Working exclusively with selected recycled objects, the series transforms discarded forms into singular sculptural paintings — inhabited by mischievous monsters that dance, prowl, and gather across their curved surfaces. Guided by the idea that “painting follows the form,” each piece responds directly to the object itself. The contours, proportions, and imperfections of every vase or jar shape the movement of the imagery, allowing the painted figures to emerge organically from the vessel rather than simply existing upon it. In this way, the series explores the relationship between two-dimensional painting and three-dimensional objecthood, extending the language of painting beyond the flat canvas into physical space. Balancing fantasy with functionality, Fantastic Fauna exists somewhere between artwork, collectible object, and decorative design. Through humour, ornamentation, and transformation, the series reimagines everyday ceramics as lively entities charged with personality, theatricality, and playful excess.
